ENABLING EDIE

Develop a greater understanding of dementia from the perspective of  person with

dementia and their carer through our new Educational Dementia Immersive Experience, EDIETM.

This serious games technology uses VR Gear (Virtual Reality goggles) to allow  users to

explore a moment in time as Edie, who has a diagnosis of dementia.

Users will face the difficulties experienced by Edie as he undertakes simple activities of daily living and develop a support plan using a reablement approach for Edie and his wife to live more confidently with dementia.

The aim of this workshop is to better understand dementia from the perspective of the consumer through an Educational

Dementia Immersive Experience, Edie. EDIE uses virtual reality technology to enhance your knowledge of the impact of dementia and to develop a support plan that enables Edie and his wife to live more confidently with dementia.

During this workshop participants will develop a greater understanding of :

  • The impact of dementia across various stages
  • A carers perspective of dementia
  • Considerations of dementia support including individual and diverse needs
  • Identifying support needs in partnership with the individual and their carer
  • How to develop a dementia support plan that focuses on enabling a person living with dementia

Meaningful Engagement in Activities for People with Dementia

The session is designed to provide staff with the skills to engage people living with dementia in activities that will provide meaning and purpose to their day. It will assist staff with ideas and resources when providing activity programming in residential aged care, day programs or those providing support to clients living in the community.

  • Describe the impact of dementia on abilities
  • Examine the significance of activity in dementia care
  • Modify the environment to make it supportive
  • Identify suitable activities incorporating Montessori principles for dementia
